The latest scheme in railway building is the Continental railway. A syndicate of Eastern capitalists are behind the project of building a railroad from New York to San Francisco over a route which will lessen the distance between the two cities six hundred miles. A corps of engineers are locating the line. The vice-president of the company was in Chesterton Sunday, and from his inquiries we judge the road will pass through Jackson Center and Chesterton.

AIR LINE EXTENDS SYSTEM.
Will Run to Hannon Farm After the First of April.
It is stated that the Air Line will extend its running distance out of Laporte another mile on the first of April. The cars, as now operated, only go to Brooks, but it is the intention of the officials, on the first of the coming month, to run the cars as far as Hannon's. The trolleys are now installed about a mile past Hannon's, but the trackage is still in a state of preparation, and it will be at least three months before the cars will run on the Laporte and Porter county line.

THE AIR LINE.
Has Raised the Cash to Complete Line to Gary.
A dispatch to the Indianapolis Star from South Bend gives this information:

"Promoters of the Chicago-New York Air Line, which passes across the counties of Lake, Porter, Laporte, St. Joseph, Elkhart and Lagrange, and which has a line in operation from Laporte to Westville, have succeeded in raising enough money to push the extension from Westville to Gary and work is to commence at once. It is expected that cars will be in operation from Laporte to Gary by fall and within another year the line will be extended east from Laporte to a point six miles south of South Bend, and thence north to South Bend."

Air Line Rushing Things.
Work on the Air Line is rushing along at a merry clip, this splendid weather making it possible to go ahead at a rapid gait. The company has just finished laying steel from Laporte to the Valparaiso & Northern interurban. They expect to have cars connecting with this line by the first of December.
