Chesterton Tribune, Friday, 5 August, 1892
A strange looking creature resembling a sea serpent was seen in the Little Calumet north of Porter and just west of Samuelson's grove last Sunday. It had a neck a foot long with small head which lay along the surface of the water when seen, the remainder of the body being under water. It propelled itself with fins or flippers as large as a man's hand, and in motion they resembled a bird's wings. For this we have the authority of a man who never takes a drop of anything, so it cannot be a fancy. When a club was thrown at it, it disappeared beneath the water.
